So far in endersession I have gained work experience at my job and crafting experience at school. At work, I have learned communicative skills, patience, and teamwork. At school, I have learned how to sew stuffed animals, spray paint stencils, book bind, and so much more. My job experience will prepare me for my future because I might work part time in college and will be transitioning into a full time career once I am out of college. Additionally, the art skills I have learned will stay with me forever because doing arts and crafts have always been a part of me. I am also in the middle of making plushies for the endersession craft fair!

Something that I have learned while working at my job and working at the Hubbell house this past week, is patience and perseverance. I am constantly dealing with rude people who are not patient, and ironically, that has taught me to be even more patient with people. At the Hubbell property, I became more patient through taking my time through different processes and not being rushed to finish a project. Even though some days at work are harder than others, I have also learned to never give up no matter how stressed I might be feeling. I will take this with me into my future because I know I will probably end up working somewhere that might not be fun. You just have to keep moving even if there are obstacles in your way. Same goes for the Hubbell experience. I was drenched head to toe, and probably the coldest I have ever been working outside before. Even though I knew I wasn't going to see an end product, I still put in 110% and had a wonderful experience.
At Sweet Cloud Creamery, I am in charge of cleaning, customer service, ice cream making, and scooping. Throughout the day, I have to wash dishes, wipe down surfaces, replace toppings, sweep, and mop when closing. I've also definitely run into a lot of angry customers when their ice cream doesn't taste good to them, they find a hair in it, or they're just in a bad mood. It's surprising how many people don't believe us when we say we don't have their favorite topping. It's also funny that people get mad when we tell them we are NOT a frozen yogurt shop.
To make the ice cream, I first measure out the dairy or chocolate base into a metal mixing bowl. After that, I go to the back of the store to add the flavoring and measure out the correct amount on a gram scale. Then I bring the bowl to the mixers and enter in the correct information on the screen for the type of ice cream I will be making. Finally, I take the bowl off the mixer and bring it to the back counter where I scoop it into a smaller bowl to put into the dip freezer to later serve. The first half of my day consisted with an art class led by Lucera and Lora. We learned how to create stencil photos on photoshop which we printed out and hand cut with
x-acto knives. I was able to cut out all four frames during the entire class session and I can't wait to spray paint tomorrow! The second half of my day began at 6:00pm in the afternoon when I clocked in for work at Sweet Cloud Creamery. Today was unusually busy for a Monday afternoon, but my coworker and I pushed through. Since we were so busy, we couldn't even clean the store until 9:00pm which was the time we closed and were supposed to leave! I didn't get home until 10:00pm, but that's okay because I got paid for the extra time I spent there! While working, I didn't need to make much ice cream; I think I only made about two batches. |
