This book was created in my Spanish Honors class where we were instructed to create a project that would fulfill both the teachers and our needs. We needed to incorporate as much Spanish as we could into our final product; including the overall language was mandatory. We were able to create anything we dreamed of, but it just needed to get approved by the teachers and meet their needs. Since I was very interested in researching the history of Spanish architecture, I knew that this was definitely going to show up somewhere in my project. As I talked among my peers, I noticed that one wanted to learn about Spanish art, and another wanted to learn about Spanish traditions. As we shared our ideas amongst each other, we decided that it would be perfect to collaborate and design a project that would include each of these subjects. So, we decided the best way to this was to create a book for all of our ideas to be stored in. The first part of the book is called, "Tradiciones Capturadas" which translates to, "Captured Traditions". The second part is called, "La Influencia del Arte" which translates to, "The Influence of Art". Lastly, the third part is called, "Una Comunidad Arquitectónica" which translates to, "An Architectural Community".
This project gave me a new perspective on the Spanish culture as a whole. Before doing this project, I wasn't as familiar with the things I see everyday in San Diego. As a result of this project, I have gained a deeper understanding about the profession I want to carry out one day. This has also taught me more about the Spanish language in general like learning an immense amount of new vocabulary used in everyday life.
